27th(INNISKILLING)
83RD AND 87TH
The Royal Irish Rangers was formed on the 1st of July 1968 with the amalgamation of the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers, Royal Ulster Rifles and the Royal Irish Fusiliers. Although the Royal Irish Rangers was only twenty four years old, it had a history that stemmed back more than three hundred years, with the birth of the Tiffins Inniskillings and 27th (or Inniskilling) Regiment of Foot on the 20th June 1689. As you browse through this site you will learn that the Irish Rangers were a unique Regiment with its fine history. It may not have been one of the oldest Regiments of the British Army, but it was one of the finest, of which its pride is continuing today in the form of the Royal Irish Regiment after the Amalgamation of the Royal Irish Rangers and the Ulster Defence Regiment in 1992.
